Synopsis/Plot
Primer is a 2004 independent science fiction film written, directed, produced, edited, and scored by Shane Carruth. The film follows two engineers, Abe and Aaron, who discover how to travel back in time after creating a machine in their garage. The two men use their newfound ability to make money in the stock market and to fix problems in their personal lives, but their actions have unexpected and far-reaching consequences.
The film focuses on the ethical and moral implications of time travel, as well as the complex and often unpredictable consequences of the decisions they make. Abe and Aaron’s machine is a black box that looks like an air conditioner, and it is powered by a car battery and a jumble of wires and electronics. After some trial and error, they figure out how to make it work and use it to travel back in time for a few hours.
The film follows the two men as they grapple with the implications of their invention and its effects on their lives. They soon realize that their actions have unexpected and far-reaching consequences, and they must confront the moral and ethical implications of their actions.
The film is notable for its use of non-linear storytelling and its complex and often ambiguous plot.
