Synopsis/Plot
Presumed Innocent is a 1990 American legal drama film based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Scott Turow. The film stars Harrison Ford as Rusty Sabich, a deputy prosecutor who is charged with the murder of his colleague and mistress, Carolyn Polhemus (Greta Scacchi). The film follows Sabich as he attempts to prove his innocence and uncover the real killer.
The film opens with Sabich being charged with Polhemus’ murder and his subsequent trial. The prosecution is led by Raymond Horgan (Brian Dennehy), Sabich’s former boss and the District Attorney. Sabich’s defense is handled by Sandy Stern (Raul Julia), an old family friend. The trial quickly becomes a media circus, as the public and press speculate on Sabich’s guilt or innocence.
During the trial, Sabich and Stern uncover evidence that suggests someone else may have committed the crime. Sabich also discovers that Polhemus was involved in a scandal involving a prominent judge (Paul Winfield). As the trial progresses, Sabich’s case becomes increasingly complicated as he is forced to contend with his own past and the secrets of those around him.
