Synopsis – What to Expect from “Possession”
Possession is a 2002 supernatural drama film directed by Joel Bergvall and Simon Sandquist. The movie follows the story of Anna (Sarah Michelle Gellar), a young woman who discovers that her husband, John (Lee Pace), is having an affair with his colleague, Lisa (Jennifer Carpenter).
Anna’s life is thrown into turmoil as she begins to experience strange and unexplainable events. She begins to see visions of a mysterious figure, who she believes to be a spirit from the past. She also discovers that John is being haunted by the same spirit, and that the two of them are connected by a dark secret from their past.
Anna and John soon realize that the spirit is the ghost of a woman named Elizabeth (Samantha Smith), who was killed in a car accident years ago. Elizabeth had been in love with John, and was devastated when he chose to marry Anna instead. Elizabeth’s spirit is now seeking revenge, and she has been using her supernatural powers to manipulate John and Anna’s lives.
With the help of a local priest (Peter Stormare), Anna and John must find a way to stop Elizabeth and put her spirit to rest. As they explore the depths of Elizabeth’s dark past, they must also confront their own inner demons and find a way to save their marriage.
