Synopsis – What to Expect from “Poms”
Poms is a 2019 American comedy-drama film directed by Zara Hayes and written by Shane Atkinson. The film stars Diane Keaton, Jacki Weaver, Pam Grier, Rhea Perlman, Celia Weston, Bruce McGill, Charlie Tahan, and Phyllis Somerville.
Poms follows Martha (Diane Keaton), a vibrant woman in her 70s who moves into a retirement community and decides to spice up her life by starting a cheerleading squad with her fellow residents. Initially, her neighbors are hesitant to join her in the endeavor, but eventually, they come around and the squad is formed.
Martha and her squad of cheerleaders, including Sheryl (Jacki Weaver), Alice (Pam Grier), Helen (Rhea Perlman), and Olive (Celia Weston), begin to practice and train for a big upcoming competition. As they practice, they bond together and become closer, and soon, they all become cheerleading pros.
However, the squad is met with some obstacles along the way. The retirement community’s strict rules and regulations, as well as the disapproval of their families, threaten to tear the squad apart. But despite these challenges, the squad is determined to make it to the competition and prove that age is just a number.
