Synopsis/Plot
Poltergeist is a 1982 supernatural horror film directed by Tobe Hooper and co-written and produced by Steven Spielberg. The film follows the Freeling family, who are terrorized by an unseen presence in their suburban home. The family soon discovers that the source of the hauntings is a nearby abandoned cemetery that has been built over an ancient burial ground.
The family consists of Steve and Diane Freeling, their children, Robbie, Dana, and Carol Anne, and their dog, E.T. The Freelings are initially unaware of the supernatural events occurring in their home, but soon begin to experience strange and unsettling occurrences. Objects move on their own, strange noises are heard, and the television becomes a portal to a ghostly plane.
The family soon discovers that their home is the target of a powerful poltergeist, and that the spirits of the dead are trying to communicate with them. With the help of a parapsychologist, they attempt to contact the spirits and learn that the poltergeist is a powerful force that is trying to take Carol Anne away.
