Synopsis/Plot
Planes, Trains and Automobiles is a classic 1987 comedy starring Steve Martin and John Candy. The movie follows the story of Neal Page (Martin), an uptight advertising executive from New York City, trying to get home to Chicago in time for Thanksgiving. Along the way, he meets Del Griffith (Candy), a talkative and overly friendly shower curtain ring salesman, who becomes Neal’s unlikely traveling companion.
The two men endure a series of misadventures as they try to get home, including a missed flight, a broken-down car, a stolen rental car, a missed train, a broken-down bus, a stolen cab, a missed plane, and a stolen truck. Throughout their journey, Neal and Del’s relationship evolves from one of annoyance to one of friendship and understanding.
The movie is filled with hilarious moments, as Neal and Del get into one misadventure after another. The two men also learn valuable lessons about friendship, patience, and understanding, as they ultimately come to appreciate each other’s differences.
