Synopsis – What to Expect from “Places in the Heart”
Places in the Heart is a 1984 film directed by Robert Benton and starring Sally Field, John Malkovich, Danny Glover and Lindsay Crouse. The film tells the story of Edna Spalding, a widow living in rural Texas in the 1930s with her two children. When Edna’s husband is killed in an accident, she is left to fend for herself and her children.
Edna is determined to keep her family together and keep her farm running, but she is in over her head. She takes on a boarder, a blind black man named Moze, and his son, who are fleeing from the law. She also hires a young drifter, Will, to help her with the farm.
As the family struggles to make ends meet, Edna and Will find themselves drawn to each other. Edna’s children, however, are not happy about the relationship. Meanwhile, Moze’s son is determined to get his father back to safety.
Edna and Will must overcome racial and religious prejudice, and the threat of violence, in order to keep their family together. Through their struggles, they learn the importance of love, family, and faith in the face of adversity. In the end, Edna and Will must decide if they are willing to take a chance on a future together.
