Synopsis/Plot
Pink Flamingos is a 1972 American black comedy exploitation film directed, written, produced, filmed, and edited by John Waters. It is part of what Waters has labelled the “Trash Trilogy”, which also includes Female Trouble (1974) and Desperate Living (1977). The film stars the countercultural drag queen Divine as a criminal living in a trailer with Edie, played by Edith Massey.
The plot revolves around Divine and her family’s struggle against Connie and Raymond Marble, a couple of criminals who have been blackmailing people by selling their “scandalous” home movies. The Marbles are determined to become the “filthiest people alive” and challenge Divine and her family to a competition to determine who is the most depraved.
The film features a number of outrageous scenes, including Divine eating dog feces, a chicken being beheaded, a woman being forced to eat a live chicken, and a man being forced to perform fellatio on a statue of a rooster. The film also features a number of celebrity cameos, including Mink Stole, David Lochary, Mary Vivian Pearce, and Cookie Mueller.
Pink Flamingos is a cult classic and an important work
