Synopsis – What to Expect from “Picking Up the Pieces”
Picking Up the Pieces is a 2000 American comedy-drama film directed by Alfonso Arau and starring Woody Allen, Sharon Stone, and Andy GarcÃa.
The movie follows the story of a small Mexican village whose lives are turned upside down when a severed hand is discovered in a nearby field. The hand belongs to the village’s most beloved figure, a local healer named Jesús Gris (Andy GarcÃa). The villagers believe Jesús to be a saint and that his hand will bring them luck and prosperity.
In the midst of the chaos, a Jewish-American couple, Max (Woody Allen) and Paula (Sharon Stone), arrive in the village, looking for a place to start a new life. Max and Paula are quickly embraced by the villagers, who are eager to learn more about their new neighbors.
As the villagers eagerly await the return of Jesús’s hand, Max and Paula begin to adjust to their new lives in the village. Max begins to embrace the local culture, while Paula struggles to find her place in the community.
Meanwhile, Jesús’s hand is brought back to the village, but it is missing its middle finger. The villagers are convinced that the missing finger is a sign from God, and they begin to worship the hand.
