Synopsis/Plot
Phantom Thread is a 2017 period drama film written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. Set in 1950s London, the film follows the life of renowned dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock (Daniel Day-Lewis) and his sister Cyril (Lesley Manville). Reynolds is a perfectionist and a meticulous tailor, who is renowned for his custom-made gowns and dresses for high-society clientele. His work is his life, and he has a strict routine that he follows to ensure the quality of his work.
When Reynolds meets a young waitress named Alma (Vicky Krieps), he is immediately taken with her and invites her to be his live-in muse. Soon, Alma becomes an integral part of Reynolds’ life and his work. She helps him to create his most beautiful and intricate pieces, and also challenges his routine and way of life.
The film delves into the complex relationship between Reynolds and Alma, as they both struggle to find balance in their lives.
