Synopsis – What to Expect from “Phantom of the Opera”
Phantom of the Opera is a 1943 horror film directed by Arthur Lubin. It stars Claude Rains as the Phantom, a disfigured recluse who lives in the sewers beneath the Paris Opera House.
The film begins with the Paris Opera House in disarray, with the chorus and orchestra members in revolt and the managers desperate to keep the show running. Meanwhile, the mysterious Phantom lurks in the shadows, watching everything unfold.
The Phantom is revealed to be a former violinist at the Opera House, Erik, who was horribly disfigured in a fire. He was driven into the catacombs beneath the Opera House by the managers who were too afraid to let him perform in public.
In the catacombs, Erik has created a new home for himself and has become obsessed with the young singer Christine (Susanna Foster). He is determined to make her a star and uses his magical powers to help her succeed.
At first, Christine is terrified of Erik, but eventually she comes to appreciate his help and even falls in love with him. However, the managers of the Opera House are determined to keep Christine away from Erik and they enlist the help of a mysterious figure known as the Persian to help them.
With the help of the Persian, the managers are able to capture Erik and they plan to have him executed. Christine is determined to save Erik and she enlists the help of her childhood friend Raoul (Nelson Eddy
