Peterloo is a historical drama set in 1819, directed by Mike Leigh. The movie follows the story of a peaceful protest in Manchester, England, that ended in a massacre.
The movie opens with a brief overview of the economic and political situation in England at the time. The country is in the throes of a great economic depression, and the government is oppressive and oppressive to the working classes. The film then focuses on the story of the working class people of Manchester, who are fed up with their plight and decide to organize a peaceful protest to demand better rights and representation.
The protest is organized by local activists, and they are joined by many people from all walks of life. The protesters march peacefully through the streets of Manchester, but they are met with a heavy-handed response by the government forces. The protesters are surrounded and attacked by cavalry, and many are killed or injured in the melee. The massacre of the protesters becomes known as the Peterloo Massacre.
The movie follows the aftermath of the massacre, as the people of Manchester struggle to understand what happened and how to move forward.
