Synopsis – What to Expect from “Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid”
Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid is a classic western drama directed by Sam Peckinpah and released in 1973. The film stars James Coburn as Pat Garrett, the aging sheriff of Lincoln County, New Mexico, and Kris Kristofferson as Billy the Kid, a young outlaw who is a fugitive from justice.
The film begins as Garrett is hired by the powerful rancher, “The Colonel” (Jason Robards), to hunt down and capture Billy the Kid. Garrett sets out to find the outlaw, but soon discovers that the Kid is no ordinary criminal. He is a charismatic figure who has become a folk hero to the people of Lincoln County, and Garrett finds himself torn between his duty and his respect for the Kid.
Meanwhile, the Colonel has sent his henchman, “Chico” (Bob Dylan), to help Garrett in his mission. Chico is determined to capture Billy at any cost, but Garrett is determined to take him alive.
The film follows Garrett and Chico as they track Billy across the countryside, eventually cornering him in a remote canyon. Garrett and Billy then have a tense standoff in which Garrett offers Billy a chance to surrender peacefully, but the Kid refuses. Garrett is forced to shoot him, and the Kid dies in his arms.
Garrett returns to town with the news of Billy’s death, and the people of Lincoln County are grief-stricken. The Colonel is outraged and orders Chico to hunt
