Synopsis – What to Expect from “Palo Alto”
Palo Alto is an American drama film set in the titular Californian city, directed by Gia Coppola and released in 2013. The movie follows the lives of a group of teenagers as they navigate the complexities of growing up in a privileged suburb.
The film focuses on the life of April (Emma Roberts), a shy and introverted high school student. April is a loner who is often overlooked by her peers, and as a result she has developed a crush on her soccer coach, Mr. B (James Franco). April’s best friend, Teddy (Jack Kilmer), is a rebellious and troubled teen who is struggling with his own inner demons.
The story follows April and Teddy as they navigate the pressures of high school and their own personal struggles. As they both struggle to find their place in the world, they find solace in each other.
April’s life is further complicated when she begins a relationship with her classmate, Fred (Nat Wolff). Fred is a troubled teen with a troubled past, and his relationship with April is further complicated by the fact that he is Teddy’s best friend.
The story culminates in a night of partying and recklessness that leads to a tragic accident. April and Teddy must confront the consequences of their actions and come to terms with the realities of growing up.
