Synopsis/Plot
Out of Africa is a 1985 romantic drama film directed and produced by Sydney Pollack and starring Robert Redford and Meryl Streep. The film is based on the autobiographical book Out of Africa written by Danish author Karen Blixen about her life in Kenya during the 1920s.
The story follows Karen Blixen, a Danish baroness who, accompanied by her husband, moves to Kenya in 1914 to start a coffee plantation. Despite her initial enthusiasm, Karen soon realizes that the land is not as hospitable as she had hoped. The harsh climate, political unrest, and her husband’s infidelity all take their toll on her.
Karen eventually finds solace in the company of Denys Finch Hatton, a big game hunter and adventurer. The two form a close bond and share a passion for the land and its people. As their friendship grows, Karen begins to realize her true feelings for Denys and their relationship blossoms into a passionate love affair.
Unfortunately, their relationship is cut short when Denys is killed in a plane crash. Devastated, Karen returns to Denmark, where she reflects on her time in Africa and the love she shared with Denys.
