Synopsis – What to Expect from “Our Souls at Night”
Our Souls at Night is a 2017 American drama film directed by Ritesh Batra and starring Robert Redford and Jane Fonda. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Kent Haruf.
The story follows Addie Moore (Fonda) and Louis Waters (Redford), two elderly neighbors in the small town of Holt, Colorado. Addie and Louis have been living alone for years and have become increasingly lonely. One night, Addie takes a chance and knocks on Louis’s door, suggesting that they spend their nights together talking and getting to know one another.
At first, Louis is hesitant, but eventually agrees. Night after night, the two become closer, as they talk about their lives and their pasts. They share stories, laugh, and cry, and soon they become good friends.
As Addie and Louis’s friendship grows, they decide to take a road trip to Denver to visit Addie’s daughter and granddaughter. Along the way, they learn more about each other and discover that they have more in common than they ever thought.
The film is a beautiful exploration of love, friendship, and connection in the later years of life. It is a tender story of two people who find companionship and solace in each other, and ultimately, a second chance at life.
