Synopsis – What to Expect from “Our Idiot Brother”
Our Idiot Brother is a 2011 comedy-drama film directed by Jesse Peretz, and stars Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel, Emily Mortimer, and Steve Coogan.
The movie follows the life of Ned (Rudd), an idealistic, naïve, and optimistic man who is always trusting and honest to a fault. After being arrested for selling marijuana to a uniformed police officer, Ned is released from jail and is forced to move back in with his family.
Ned’s three sisters, Miranda (Banks), Liz (Deschanel), and Natalie (Mortimer), are all very different and have different opinions on how to handle Ned’s situation. Miranda is a journalist who is career-driven and has a strained relationship with her husband Dylan (Coogan). Liz is a hipster who is struggling to make it as a photographer and is in a relationship with a much older man. Natalie is an uptight stay-at-home mom who is trying to keep up with her two kids and her husband’s demanding job.
Ned’s presence in his sisters’ lives brings out the best and worst in them. He helps Miranda to reconnect with her husband, Liz to accept her relationship and stand up for herself, and Natalie to loosen up and have some fun. However, his honesty and trusting nature also leads to some embarrassing situations for his sisters, such as when he accidentally reveals Miranda’s affair to her husband
