Synopsis/Plot
Ordinary People is a 1980 American drama film that follows the story of a family struggling to cope with the death of their eldest son in a boating accident. The film stars Donald Sutherland, Mary Tyler Moore, Judd Hirsch, and Timothy Hutton.
The film follows the Jarrett family, a seemingly normal and happy family living in suburban Lake Forest, Illinois. After the death of their eldest son Buck in a boating accident, the family begins to unravel as they struggle to cope with their grief. The family’s emotional turmoil is compounded by the fact that their surviving son, Conrad, is struggling to cope with his own guilt over his brother’s death.
Conrad is sent to a psychiatrist, Dr. Berger, in order to help him work through his issues. Through a series of conversations with Dr. Berger, Conrad begins to come to terms with his guilt and begins to heal. His parents, however, are unable to come to terms with their grief and struggle to find a way to move forward.
The film is a powerful exploration of grief and how it can affect a family. It is an honest and raw portrayal of how people deal with tragedy and how it can bring a family closer together or tear them
