Synopsis/Plot
Orca is a 1977 American-Canadian adventure-horror film directed by Michael Anderson and starring Richard Harris, Charlotte Rampling, and Will Sampson. It tells the story of a male killer whale, nicknamed Orca, that is driven insane with rage after a fisherman kills his mate and their unborn calf. In his quest for revenge, Orca terrorizes the small fishing village of Newfoundland, Canada.
The film begins with a group of fishermen led by Captain Nolan (Harris) setting out to hunt a great white shark. During the hunt, they come across a female killer whale and her unborn calf. Nolan makes the decision to harpoon the whale, which angers the male Orca who had been hidden nearby. After the female dies, Orca is filled with rage and sets out to exact revenge on the fishermen.
Orca begins to terrorize the small fishing village, sinking boats and killing anyone who ventures into the water. He even goes as far as to kidnap a young girl named Annie (Keenan Wynn) in an attempt to lure Nolan out of hiding. After a series of harrowing encounters, Nolan finally manages to track Orca down and engages in a battle of wills with the whale.
