Synopsis – What to Expect from “One More Time with Feeling”
One More Time with Feeling is a 2016 British-Australian documentary film directed by Andrew Dominik. It chronicles the making of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds’ sixteenth studio album, Skeleton Tree.
The film opens with a black and white montage of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds recording the album in a studio in London. We then move to a series of interviews with Cave and his bandmates, as well as his wife and son. They discuss the death of Cave’s 15 year old son, Arthur, who died in a tragic accident in 2015. This tragedy had a profound effect on Cave’s life and music and we see how it has influenced the making of Skeleton Tree.
The film follows Cave and the band as they record the album, and we get an intimate look into their creative process. We also get to hear some of the tracks from Skeleton Tree, as well as some of the band’s older songs.
The film culminates in a live performance of the album in Copenhagen. The performance is intercut with footage of Cave and his bandmates discussing the making of the album and the effect of Arthur’s death on their lives.
The film is a powerful and moving look at grief, loss, and creativity, and how these things can intertwine to create something beautiful.
