The movie follows the story of Seymour “Sy” Parrish, an isolated photo technician who has developed an obsession with a family he has been developing photos for over the years.
Sy is a lonely man with no family or friends, and he finds solace in his job at the one-hour photo shop. His life is quiet and predictable until he discovers that the family he has been developing photos for, the Yorkins, is not as perfect as he thought. He discovers that the father, Will Yorkin, is having an affair and is deeply troubled by this.
Sy begins to stalk the Yorkin family, secretly taking pictures of them and collecting them in a scrapbook. He also begins to send them anonymous gifts and notes, and he even begins to show up uninvited at their house. Sy’s obsession leads him to increasingly desperate and dangerous acts, until he finally confronts Will and his family.
