Synopsis – What to Expect from “One-Eyed Jacks”
One-Eyed Jacks is a classic western film released in 1961, starring Marlon Brando as Rio, a bank robber and ex-partner of the notorious criminal Dad Longworth (Karl Malden). After a botched robbery, Rio is sent to prison while Dad makes off with the loot. After five years in jail, Rio is released and heads to Monterey, California, in search of revenge.
When he arrives, Rio meets up with his old friend, the gambler Bob Amory (Ben Johnson). Bob reveals that Dad has become a respected Sheriff in Monterey and is now married to Louisa (Katy Jurado), the daughter of a wealthy landowner.
Rio decides to stay in Monterey and begins to work as a ranch hand for Louisa’s father. He also starts to court Louisa, not knowing that she is married to his former partner. Meanwhile, Dad is aware that Rio is in town and starts to worry that Rio may be out for revenge.
As Rio gets closer to Louisa, Dad becomes increasingly paranoid and starts to make moves to protect his position. He begins to suspect that Louisa may be having an affair and sets out to find proof.
Rio’s plan for revenge is complicated by his growing feelings for Louisa and his loyalty to Bob. Eventually, Rio is forced to confront Dad in a dramatic showdown in the desert. In the end, Rio must decide
