Synopsis/Plot
Oldboy is a 2003 South Korean neo-noir psychological thriller directed by Park Chan-wook. The film follows the story of Oh Dae-su, a businessman who is mysteriously kidnapped and imprisoned in a hotel-like room for 15 years without knowing his captor’s motives. After his unexpected release, he embarks on a quest to find out why he was taken and seek revenge on those responsible.
The film starts with Oh Dae-su being abducted and locked in a hotel-like room with no windows or doors. He is given a television set and a bed and is fed dumplings through a slot in the door. After 15 years, he is suddenly released and given a cell phone, a suit, and money. He begins to search for his captor and discover why he was taken.
During his investigation, he discovers that his captor is a powerful man named Lee Woo-jin, who has a vendetta against him. He also meets a young woman named Mi-do, who helps him in his quest for revenge. Together, they uncover the truth behind his imprisonment and the events that led to it.
