Synopsis – What to Expect from “O.G.”
O.G. is a 2018 drama film starring Jeffrey Wright and Theothus Carter. The film follows Louis (Wright), an inmate at a maximum security prison, who has served 23 years of his life sentence. He is nearing the end of his sentence and is struggling with the idea of re-entering the world outside of prison.
Louis has been a model prisoner and has acted as a mentor to the younger inmates. He has worked hard to keep the peace among the inmates and to keep the prison’s gangs at bay. He is respected by both the inmates and the prison staff, and he has earned the nickname “O.G.” (Original Gangster).
The prison staff is preparing for the arrival of a new inmate, Beecher (Carter), who has been convicted of a violent crime. Beecher is a troubled young man who is still trying to find his way in the world. Louis takes Beecher under his wing and tries to help him adjust to prison life.
As Louis and Beecher’s relationship grows, Louis begins to realize that he can’t protect Beecher from the dangers of prison life forever. He must decide if he will stay in prison to protect Beecher, or if he will take the risk of leaving and trying to make a life for himself outside of prison.
