Synopsis – What to Expect from “Nixon”
Nixon, released in 1995, is a biographical drama about the life and career of the 37th President of the United States, Richard Nixon. The film follows Nixon from his childhood in California to his days as a young lawyer, through his rise to the presidency and his eventual downfall.
The film opens with a young Richard Nixon (Anthony Hopkins) living in a small town in California, struggling to make ends meet and make something of himself. He eventually goes to college and law school, and then embarks on a successful career in politics. He is elected to Congress, and then to the Senate, where he quickly makes a name for himself as a hard-working, ambitious politician.
Nixon then embarks on his first presidential campaign, and is elected President of the United States in 1968. He quickly sets about enacting his agenda, and is widely seen as a successful leader. However, his presidency is soon marred by the Watergate scandal, and he is forced to resign in disgrace.
The film follows Nixon through his post-presidency years, as he struggles to come to terms with his legacy and the public perception of him. The film culminates in 1994, when Nixon makes a public appearance at a memorial service for the late President Ronald Reagan.
In the end, Nixon is seen as a complex figure, a man of ambition and accomplishment, but also one who was ultimately brought down by his own flaws and mistakes. The film is
