Synopsis – What to Expect from “Ninotchka”
Set in the 1930s, Ninotchka is a romantic comedy about a stern Soviet agent sent to Paris to retrieve three Soviet-defecting comrades.
The Soviet agent is Ninotchka, played by Greta Garbo. She is a no-nonsense, serious woman who has been sent to Paris to retrieve three Soviet comrades who have defected and are living in luxury. Ninotchka is accompanied by two other Soviet agents, who are much less serious and much more interested in the pleasures of Paris.
Upon arriving in Paris, Ninotchka meets the handsome Count Leon, who is determined to win her heart. He tries to show her the beauty of Paris and the joys of life. Ninotchka is not easily swayed and her mission remains her top priority.
Ninotchka eventually succeeds in her mission, but not before the three defectors have had their fun. She eventually finds herself falling for the Count and they share a romantic night together.
The next morning, Ninotchka is determined to return to her homeland, despite the Count’s pleas for her to stay. She boards the train and says goodbye to the Count, but not before he gives her a little box containing a diamond ring.
On the train, Ninotchka is surprised to find the three defectors and she is forced to confront them. She makes them realize the error of their ways and they decide to return
