Synopsis – What to Expect from “Night of the Lepus”
Night of the Lepus is a 1972 horror film about a small town in Arizona that is invaded by giant, mutant rabbits.
The film opens with a young couple, Roy and Gerry Bennett, who are driving through the Arizona desert when they spot some strange creatures in the road. They soon realize that these creatures are giant, mutant rabbits.
Back in town, the local sheriff, Elmer Brady, is called to investigate the strange sightings. He soon discovers that the rabbits are multiplying rapidly and are becoming increasingly aggressive.
The sheriff enlists the help of two experts, Dr. David Kenner and Dr. Elvira Craig, to help him figure out how to stop the rabbits before they overrun the town.
The experts discover that the rabbits are being mutated by a chemical called “Leporacin” that is being released into the environment by a local chemical plant.
The experts come up with a plan to lure the rabbits into a nearby canyon and then detonate explosives to kill them all. However, the plan goes awry and the rabbits escape and continue to multiply.
The townspeople are now forced to take drastic measures to protect themselves from the rabbits. They begin to hunt and trap the rabbits, while also trying to figure out how to stop the chemical plant from releasing the Leporacin.
The film culminates in a thrilling, action-packed climax as the townspeople battle the giant
