Synopsis – What to Expect from “Night and Day”
Night and Day is a romantic musical comedy from 1946 starring Cary Grant and Alexis Smith. The film follows the story of successful songwriter Cole Porter (Cary Grant), who is at the peak of his career. He meets Linda (Alexis Smith), an aspiring young journalist, who immediately falls in love with him. Despite his fame and success, Cole is still a bachelor and is not looking to settle down anytime soon.
Linda is determined to win Cole’s heart, and so she follows him on a cruise to Europe. On the cruise, they are both pursued by other admirers, but Linda is determined to stay by Cole’s side. As they travel from port to port, they share many adventures together and Linda continues to try to win Cole’s heart.
However, Linda soon discovers that Cole is not the man she thought he was. She learns that he is a womanizer who has broken the hearts of many women. She also discovers that he is still in love with his ex-fiancée, who is now married to another man.
Despite his flaws, Linda is still determined to win Cole’s heart. She continues to pursue him and eventually he begins to fall in love with her. As they travel to Paris, Cole finally realizes that Linda is the one for him and he proposes to her. The two are married in a beautiful ceremony in Paris and they live happily ever after.
