Synopsis – What to Expect from “Nicholas Nickleby”
Nicholas Nickleby is a 2002 British-American drama film directed by Douglas McGrath and starring Charlie Hunnam, Jamie Bell, Christopher Plummer, and Anne Hathaway.
The story follows Nicholas Nickleby (Hunnam), a young man from a wealthy family who is forced to fend for himself after his father dies. He is sent to work at a brutal boarding school run by the cruel headmaster Wackford Squeers (Plummer). With the help of his uncle Ralph Nickleby (Jim Broadbent) and his new friends, Nicholas sets out to save his family from poverty and bring justice to Squeers.
The story follows Nicholas as he faces many obstacles on his journey. He is aided by a kind-hearted actress, Madeline Bray (Hathaway), and a mysterious circus performer, Mr. Vincent Crummles (Nathan Lane). With their help, Nicholas is able to rescue his sister Kate (Romola Garai) from the boarding school and reunite his family.
Nicholas and his family face further hardship when their uncle Ralph is accused of a crime he did not commit. With the help of his friends, Nicholas is able to prove his uncle’s innocence and restore the family’s fortune.
