Users who are streaming Netflix over Wi-Fi, have reported the Netflix Code NW-3-6 error. This error pops up when you are switching between networks or trying to stream after you were offline for some time. This error is followed by a message:

“We’re having a problem connecting to Netflix. Please try again or visit www.netflix.com/help“

Find out what’s causing the issue and how to troubleshoot it on your own.

What Is Netflix Code NW-3-6

what is netflix code nw-3-6

The Netflix Code NW-3-6 is a Netflix network error. This error means network servers are unable to connect to your streaming device that’s why they are unable to process your requests. The probable root cause can be –

Connection Issues

The NW-3-6 is a core network issue. This is the most probable cause of this error. Check your Wi-Fi connection and see if other devices can connect to it.

Netflix Services Aren’t Responding

Let’s say you were streaming on Netflix and paused for a moment. In the meantime, there was a connection outage which was soon restored. If you try to resume streaming, Netflix services can face some problems to deal with the interim connection disruption.

You Are Using A VPN

As VPNs bounce your traffic over different servers, Netflix may not process your request and show Netflix Code NW-3-6 instead.

How To Fix Netflix Code NW-3-6

Restart Your Wi-Fi or Router

restart router

To reset the connection –

  • Disconnect your streaming device from the Wi-Fi
  • Turn off your Wi-Fi and wait for a few minutes
  • Turn your Wi-Fi back on.
  • On your streaming device, search for a network connection and connect to it
  • Check if you can stream without any error

Restart Streaming Device

Restarting your streaming device will reset the services and also prevent stale data-related issues. If you are streaming on a smartphone or tablet:

  • Put your device in offline mode, and turn off your device
  • Wait it out for a few minutes and then turn it back on
  • Connect to a network and start Netflix

If you are using a Smart TV for streaming:

  • Turn off your TV, and plug it off
  • Wait for a few minutes and then plug the TV back on
  • Open the Netflix app on your TV and check if the issue persists.

Turn Off Your VPN

turn on vpn

If you are streaming Netflix titles available in the US, you do not need a VPN, unless you want to access beyond the Netflix US library. If you are connected to a VPN and getting the Netflix Code NW-3-6, disconnecting the VPN will solve the issue.

Flush DNS Servers

If you flush your DNS servers it will reset your connection.

On Windows

  • Search for “command prompt” and Run it as an Administrator
  • Type the following commands followed by Enter
    • ipconfig /flushdns
    • ipconfig /registerdns
    • ipconfig /release
    • ipconfig /renew
    • netsh winsock reset
  • Restart your machine and launch Netflix.

On macOS

  • Open “Terminal“
  • Type sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder and press Enter
  • Enter Admin Username and Password
  • Reboot your system and launch Netflix

Get a VPN To Access All Netflix Libraries

Netflix is good.

Netflix without ads is better.

Netflix without Ads and without Geo-Blocking is best.

It has extensive digital libraries with regional content worth watching. You can unlock all that with a good VPN.

expressvpn

We recommend ExpressVPN as the best VPN to watch Netflix. (We stream Netflix using ExpressVPN. Every. Day.) Here’s how to start doing it –

  • Get ExpressVPN! Custom Discount + 3 Months Free For our Readers.
  • Download the ExpressVPN app on your device.
  • Connect to any server from a Netflix-supported region.
  • Watch Netflix Ad-free. Access any Geo-blocked content.
  • Enjoy best-in-class Security for Streaming or simply Surfing the Web!

Contact Your ISP

If all the above troubleshooting methods didn’t resolve the Netflix Code NW-3-6 contact your Internet Service Provider. Some service providers assign dynamic IP addresses, from a pool of available IPs.

If any of these IP addresses are blocked by Netflix, and one of them gets assigned to you, your requests won’t make it to Netflix servers. If this is the case your ISP can assign a brand new IP address to resolve the issue.

All in all, the Netflix Code NW-3-6 is a connection-related issue and can be fixed by resetting the connection and restarting your streaming system. If you are facing this issue while you are connected to a VPN, turn it off or switch to a compatible VPN service.
