Synopsis – What to Expect from “Neds”
Neds is a gritty coming-of-age drama set in Glasgow, Scotland. The film follows the story of John McGill, a bright and intelligent young boy who is on the brink of becoming a delinquent. Despite his potential, John is faced with a number of difficult decisions when he is thrust into the world of the local Neds (non-educated delinquents).
John’s story begins with his first day of secondary school. He quickly finds himself on the wrong side of the school bullies, who take pleasure in tormenting him. His only reprieve is his teacher, who encourages him to focus on his studies and stay away from the Neds.
John’s older brother, Benny, is a Ned. Benny introduces John to the world of the Neds, which includes drinking, smoking, fighting and stealing. John is initially hesitant, but eventually gives in to the peer pressure and begins to enjoy the thrill of being a Ned.
John’s involvement with the Neds leads him down a dangerous path. He begins to get into more and more trouble, including getting into fights and stealing cars. His actions begin to take a toll on his family and his relationships with his friends.
John eventually realizes the consequences of his actions and decides to turn his life around. He begins to focus on his studies and rebuilds his relationships with his friends and family. He also finds the courage to stand up to the school bullies and reclaim his place in the school hierarchy
