Synopsis – What to Expect from “My Man Godfrey”
My Man Godfrey is a romantic comedy released in 1936. It is set in New York City during the Great Depression and stars William Powell as the titular Godfrey, a homeless man who is hired by a wealthy family as their new butler.
The movie begins with a scavenger hunt, a popular social event during the Great Depression. The wealthy Bullock family hires Godfrey to take part in the hunt, and he quickly proves himself to be a valuable asset. The movie follows Godfrey and Irene as they navigate their growing relationship, while also exploring the themes of class, wealth, and poverty. In the end, Godfrey and Irene realize that their differences do not matter, and they find true love.
