Synopsis/Plot
My Left Foot: The Story of Christy Brown is a powerful and moving drama based on the true story of Christy Brown, an Irishman born with cerebral palsy. Despite the fact that he was born with severe physical disabilities, Christy was determined to make something of his life. With the help of his loving family, Christy was able to overcome his physical limitations and become a celebrated artist and writer.
The film follows Christy’s story from his birth in 1932 to his death in 1981. Despite his physical limitations, Christy was determined to live a full life and refused to let his disability define him. He learned to write and paint with his left foot, and his paintings and writings were eventually recognized and celebrated. We also witness Christy’s struggles with his family, as he deals with his mother’s alcoholism and his father’s domineering nature.
The film features an outstanding performance by Daniel Day-Lewis, who won an Academy Award for his portrayal of Christy Brown. The film also features a stellar supporting cast, including Brenda Fricker, who won an Academy Award for her portrayal of Christy’s mother.
