Synopsis – What to Expect from “My Fellow Americans”
My Fellow Americans is a 1996 American political comedy film directed by Peter Segal and starring Jack Lemmon and James Garner as former United States Presidents who find themselves on the run from a corrupt political establishment.
The story begins with former Presidents Russell Kramer (Lemmon) and Matt Douglas (Garner) attending the funeral of their predecessor, President William Haney. During the funeral, they are approached by a mysterious figure who gives them a briefcase containing incriminating evidence of a political scandal.
The two former Presidents, realizing that they are in possession of something that could be damaging to the current administration, decide to go on the run. With the help of a young female Secret Service agent, Sarah Haney (Lauren Holly), they try to stay one step ahead of the government agents trying to capture them.
Along the way, they discover that the political scandal is much bigger than they had originally thought and involves the President’s Chief of Staff, William Haney (Dan Aykroyd). With the help of Sarah, they set out to expose the corruption and bring it to light.
In the end, the two former Presidents are successful in exposing the scandal and, in the process, become national heroes. The movie ends with Kramer and Douglas being welcomed back to the White House by the President and the American people.
