Synopsis – What to Expect from “My Boy Jack”
My Boy Jack is a 2007 British biographical war drama film directed by Brian Kirk. The film stars Daniel Radcliffe, Carey Mulligan, David Haig, and Kim Cattrall.
The film follows the story of John “Jack” Kipling, the son of famous poet Rudyard Kipling. Jack Kipling is determined to join the British Army to fight in World War I despite his poor eyesight and his father’s objections. After being rejected by the army, Jack’s father uses his influence to get Jack a commission as a second lieutenant in the Irish Guards.
Jack is sent to the trenches in France where he is soon killed in battle. His father is left to grieve his loss and to try to make sense of the tragedy.
The film follows the story of Jack’s parents as they try to come to terms with their loss. The film also follows a young journalist, Robert Graves, who is sent to France to investigate Jack’s death. He discovers that Jack was killed by friendly fire, and that the commanding officer of the Irish Guards had lied to the Kiplings about the circumstances of Jack’s death.
