Synopsis – What to Expect from “Murder by Decree”
Murder by Decree is a 1979 British-Canadian mystery thriller film directed by Bob Clark and starring Christopher Plummer and James Mason. The film is based on the story of the Jack the Ripper murders.
The film follows Sherlock Holmes (Christopher Plummer) and his assistant, Dr. Watson (James Mason) as they investigate the gruesome murders of five prostitutes in the Whitechapel district of London in 1888. Holmes and Watson soon discover that the murders are part of a sinister conspiracy involving the British government and the Freemasons.
With the help of a local newspaper editor (Donald Sutherland), Holmes and Watson uncover a cover-up involving a powerful politician (David Hemmings) and a powerful secret society. Holmes and Watson come to the realization that the only way to solve the mystery is to confront the killer himself.
The investigation leads them to a man who is known as “The Avenger” (John Gielgud). Holmes and Watson soon discover that the murders are part of a plan to cover up a government scandal, and that the killer is being protected by powerful people.
Holmes and Watson must use their wits and courage to uncover the truth before the killer can strike again. With the help of the local police, Holmes and Watson are able to track down the killer and bring him to justice.
