Synopsis – What to Expect from “Mudbound”
Mudbound is a powerful and timely drama set in the post-WWII era. It follows two families, one black and one white, living on a farm in rural Mississippi.
The film centers around two veterans, Ronsel Jackson (played by Jason Mitchell) and Jamie McAllan (played by Garrett Hedlund). Both return from the war with different experiences, and both struggle to adjust to the racism and prejudice in the rural south.
Ronsel is welcomed home by his family, but his neighbors are not as kind. He is subjected to racism and prejudice from the white people in the community. Jamie, on the other hand, is welcomed back by his family and the community, but he struggles with PTSD and the pain of his wartime experiences.
The two men strike up an unlikely friendship, which is not accepted by the other members of the community. As they spend more time together, they begin to understand each other’s struggles and form a strong bond.
Meanwhile, Jamie’s father Henry (played by Jonathan Banks) and Ronsel’s father Hap (played by Rob Morgan) are struggling to keep the farm running. They must work together, but their differences in race and class create tension.
The story culminates in a violent confrontation between the two men, which leads to tragedy. In the aftermath, the two families must come to terms with the consequences of their actions and find a way to move forward together.
