Synopsis – What to Expect from “Mr. Mom”
Mr. Mom is a 1983 comedy film starring Michael Keaton as Jack Butler, a Detroit auto engineer who is laid off from his job. After being unemployed for several months, Jack’s wife, Carol (Teri Garr), decides to take a job as an executive at a local ad agency. With the new job, comes a new lifestyle and Jack finds himself a stay-at-home dad.
At first, Jack struggles to adjust to his new role and is overwhelmed by the daily tasks of caring for the kids and the house. He is also constantly teased by his wife’s boss, Ron Richardson (Martin Mull), who belittles Jack’s lack of domestic skills. As time passes, Jack begins to find his footing as a stay-at-home dad and even develops a bond with his children.
Meanwhile, Jack’s wife, Carol, is flourishing in her new job and is promoted to vice president of the ad agency. But when Ron makes a pass at Carol, she decides to quit her job and return home. With Carol back in the house, Jack must find a way to balance his old role as a husband with his newfound role as a stay-at-home dad.
The film follows Jack as he navigates his new role as a stay-at-home dad and deals with the various challenges that come with it. He learns to be more patient with his children and discovers a newfound appreciation for the work that his wife does. In
