Synopsis/Plot
Modern Times, released in 1936, is a classic comedy film written and directed by Charlie Chaplin. It stars Chaplin as a factory worker who is struggling to keep up with the rapid modernization of the industrial world. The film follows Chaplin’s character, known as The Tramp, as he attempts to find work in a world that is quickly changing.
The Tramp is first seen working in a factory, where he is overwhelmed by the speed of the machines and the inhumane conditions of the job. Despite his best efforts, he is eventually fired from the factory and forced to find work elsewhere. He eventually finds a job as a night watchman in a department store, but is soon fired from that job as well.
The Tramp eventually finds himself in the company of a young homeless girl, known as The Gamin. Together, they embark on a journey of misadventures, including an attempted jailbreak, a stint as circus performers, and a run-in with the law. Throughout their journey, The Tramp and The Gamin discover the harsh realities of poverty and the struggles of the working class.
Modern Times is a timeless classic that has been praised for its clever satire and social commentary
