Synopsis/Plot
Missing is a 1982 American drama film directed by Costa-Gavras and starring Jack Lemmon, Sissy Spacek, and Melanie Mayron. The film depicts the plight of an American father, Ed Horman (Lemmon), who travels to South America to search for his missing son, Charles Horman (John Shea).
The film is set in the early 1970s, during the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet in Chile. Ed and his wife Beth (Spacek) learn that their son, a journalist, has been arrested and is missing. Ed travels to Chile to find his son, only to be met with a wall of silence from the officials he talks to. He is also warned by the US Embassy not to interfere in the internal affairs of the country.
As Ed continues his search, he slowly discovers the truth about his son’s disappearance. He learns that Charles was taken away by the military and murdered, and that the US government had knowledge of the situation but did nothing to help.
