Synopsis – What to Expect from “Miral”
Miral is a powerful and moving drama set in Jerusalem in 1947-48. The film follows the story of a young Palestinian girl, Miral, who is born into a family of refugees who have been forced from their homes. She is sent to an orphanage, where she is raised by Hind Husseini, a woman determined to give the children of her community a future.
Miral grows up in the orphanage, learning to read and write and developing a strong sense of identity in her new home. As she grows, she begins to learn more about the conflict between Palestinians and Israelis, and how her people are being treated. She also meets Jamal, a young man who is part of the resistance movement and who encourages her to stand up for her rights.
When Miral turns 18, she is sent to a university in Jerusalem, where she meets a young Israeli soldier, Hillel. Despite their different backgrounds, the two become close friends, and Miral begins to understand the complexities of the conflict.
Meanwhile, the conflict intensifies and Miral is forced to choose between the two sides. She decides to join the resistance and fight for her people’s rights, even as her relationship with Hillel becomes strained. In the end, Miral must find a way to reconcile her own beliefs with those of her people and find a way to peace.
