Synopsis – What to Expect from “Miracle at St. Anna”
Miracle at St. Anna is a 2008 war drama film directed by Spike Lee. It follows the story of four African-American soldiers who are members of the U.S. Army’s all-black 92nd “Buffalo Soldier” Division during World War II.
The film begins in 1983, when a postman named Hector Negron (Laz Alonso) is arrested for shooting a man in a New York City pawnshop. During his interrogation, Hector tells the story of his experience in Italy during World War II.
In 1944, the four soldiers – Hector, Bishop Cummings (Omar Benson Miller), Sam Train (Derek Luke), and Aubrey Stamps (Michael Ealy) – are sent to the Tuscan village of St. Anna di Stazzema, where they become trapped behind enemy lines. The men soon find themselves in the middle of a Nazi massacre of the villagers, and they are forced to take refuge in a nearby church.
The soldiers form a bond with the villagers, and they fight off the Nazis with the help of a young Italian boy named Angelo (Matteo Sciabordi). Eventually, the soldiers escape the village, but they are left with the guilt of not being able to save more of the villagers.
Back in 1983, Hector is released from prison and visits the village of St. Anna di Stazzema to pay his respects to the villagers who were killed during the massacre. He also meets
