Synopsis/Plot
Minority Report is a 2002 science fiction film directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Cruise. Set in Washington, D.C. in 2054, the film follows John Anderton (Cruise), the head of a special police unit called PreCrime, which utilizes three psychics, or “precogs”, to predict and prevent crimes before they occur. When Anderton discovers that the precogs have foreseen a murder he will commit in the future, he goes on the run in an effort to prove his innocence.
The film explores themes of fate and free will, as Anderton struggles to find a way to avoid his predetermined fate while still protecting the public from future crimes. Along the way, he encounters a variety of characters, including a mysterious stranger (Colin Farrell) who may hold the key to his salvation, a powerful businessman (Max von Sydow) who wants to use the PreCrime system for his own ends, and a determined police detective (Samantha Morton) who is determined to bring Anderton to justice.
