Synopsis/Plot
Minari is a 2020 American drama film written and directed by Lee Isaac Chung. The film follows a Korean-American family who moves to a tiny Arkansas farm in search of their own American Dream. The family is comprised of father, Jacob, a Korean-war veteran, mother Monica, and their two children, David and Anne.
The family moves to the rural area from California, and they face a number of challenges. Jacob and Monica must contend with the demands of a new job, while David and Anne must adjust to a new school and a new environment. The film follows the family as they struggle to make a life for themselves in this unfamiliar place.
The film centers around the family’s matriarch, Soonja, played by Yuh-jung Youn. Soonja is a Korean grandmother who comes to live with the family and helps them adjust to their new life. She brings with her a unique wisdom and a deep understanding of the family’s struggles.
