Synopsis/Plot
Maximum Overdrive is an action-packed horror-thriller directed by Stephen King and released in 1986. The film follows a group of survivors as they fight for their lives against a horde of machines that have become sentient and are hell-bent on killing humans.
The film opens with a comet passing the Earth, and soon after, all of the world’s machines become alive and start attacking humans. A group of survivors, led by Bill Robinson (Emilio Estevez), take refuge in a truck stop outside of Wilmington, North Carolina and attempt to outlast the machines. As they battle for survival, they soon discover that the machines are powered by a mysterious green crystal, which is revealed to be an alien artifact.
Bill and his team must find a way to destroy the crystal and save humanity. Along the way, they encounter a variety of machines, including an evil semi-truck, a robotic arm, and an arcade game. They also meet a mysterious stranger, “The Man” (Pat Hingle), who has some knowledge of the crystal and its power.
