Synopsis/Plot
Mask is a 1985 American drama film directed by Peter Bogdanovich, starring Cher, Sam Elliott, and Eric Stoltz. It tells the story of Rocky Dennis, a teenager afflicted with craniodiaphyseal dysplasia, an extremely rare disorder known as Lionitis that causes disfigurement of the face and head. Rocky’s mother, Rusty, played by Cher, is determined to make his life as normal and fulfilling as possible, despite his condition.
The movie follows Rocky’s journey as he struggles to fit in at school and in his community. Despite the challenges he faces, Rocky is an intelligent and talented young man who is determined to make the most of his life. He finds solace in his love of motorcycles and forms a friendship with a biker gang, led by his mentor, Gar, played by Sam Elliott.
The film also explores Rocky’s relationship with his mother, Rusty, and her attempts to keep her son safe and protected from the cruelty of the world. As Rocky’s condition worsens, Rusty is forced to make difficult decisions about his future.
