Synopsis/Plot
Margin Call is a 2011 American independent drama film written and directed by J. C. Chandor. The story takes place over a 36-hour period at an investment bank during the earliest stages of the financial crisis of 2007–08. It stars an ensemble cast featuring Kevin Spacey, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Irons, Zachary Quinto, Penn Badgley, Simon Baker, Demi Moore, and Stanley Tucci.
The film follows the key people at an investment bank, over a 24-hour period, during the early stages of the financial crisis. The senior management team, led by CEO John Tuld (Jeremy Irons), is notified that the firm has a significant amount of toxic assets on its books that could potentially sink the company. The team must decide how to respond to the situation, and their decisions will have a major impact on the stability of the global economy.
The story is told from the perspective of several different characters, including an entry-level analyst, Peter Sullivan (Zachary Quinto), who discovers the company’s precarious financial situation. He brings his findings to the attention of his superiors, including the firm’s risk management head, Eric Dale (Stanley Tucci),
