Synopsis – What to Expect from “Margaret”
Margaret is a 2011 drama film written and directed by Kenneth Lonergan. The film follows the story of 17-year-old Margaret (Anna Paquin) who finds herself in the midst of a moral dilemma after she is involved in a bus accident. The accident results in the death of a pedestrian, and Margaret is left questioning her role in the tragedy.
The film follows Margaret’s struggle to come to terms with her guilt and her own moral compass. She is torn between her conscience and her desire to move on with her life. As she wrestles with her inner turmoil, Margaret’s relationships with her family, friends, and schoolmates become strained. She finds herself at odds with her mother (J. Smith-Cameron) and her best friend (Jeannie Berlin). She also finds herself in a budding romance with a classmate (John Gallagher Jr.) who is struggling with his own guilt over the accident.
The film follows Margaret as she attempts to make sense of her life and the choices she has made. Through her journey, she discovers that the truth is often more complicated than it seems, and that the consequences of her actions are far-reaching. The film ultimately culminates in a powerful climax which brings closure to Margaret’s story.
