Synopsis – What to Expect from “Made in Dagenham”
Made in Dagenham is a British comedy-drama film released in 2010. The movie is based on a true story of the 1968 Ford sewing machinists strike at the Ford Dagenham plant in the United Kingdom.
The movie follows the story of Rita O’Grady (Sally Hawkins), a young mother and a machinist at the Ford Dagenham factory. Rita and her colleagues are fed up with the unfair pay and working conditions they are subjected to and decide to take a stand. Led by Rita, the women go on strike and demand equal pay for equal work.
Despite the initial opposition from the management, the women’s strike gains momentum and soon the whole country is supporting them. With the help of union leader Albert Passingham (Bob Hoskins), the women are able to negotiate a better deal with Ford.
Meanwhile, Rita has to deal with her own personal struggles, including her husband’s infidelity and her daughter’s rebellious nature. She also has to contend with the judgement of her peers who are not in favor of her taking a stand.
Eventually, Rita and her colleagues are able to make a deal with Ford and the women are finally granted equal pay. The movie ends on a triumphant note as Rita and her colleagues celebrate their victory.
