Synopsis/Plot
Macbeth is a powerful and haunting adaptation of William Shakespeare’s classic tragedy. Directed by Justin Kurzel and starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, Macbeth follows the story of a Scottish general, Macbeth, who is driven by ambition and encouraged by his wife to murder his king and take the throne for himself.
The film opens with a bloody battle between Macbeth and his enemy, Macdonwald, in which Macbeth emerges triumphant. After returning home to his castle, Macbeth is visited by three witches who prophesy that he will become king. This sets Macbeth on a path of ambition and betrayal that will have devastating consequences.
As Macbeth begins his journey to the throne, he is haunted by visions of the future and tormented by his own conscience. He soon finds himself caught in a web of deceit and murder, as his wife and his closest confidante, Banquo, urge him to take even more drastic measures to secure his rule.
The film is a visual feast, with stunning cinematography and powerful performances from the entire cast. The dark and brooding atmosphere of the Scottish Highlands is beautifully captured, and the score is haunting
